One Church, Two Worship Styles – United in Faith, the Heart is the Same

About our Worship Styles

At First Presbyterian Church, we believe in offering worship experiences that reflect both the richness of tradition and the relevance of modern-day expressions. Whether you join us for our Contemporary or Traditional Service, you’ll find the same foundational elements of our faith—Scripture-centered preaching, heartfelt prayer, meaningful fellowship, and the celebration of the sacraments.

Our Worship Services

Contemporary Service

8:30 a.m. & 10:00 a.m. in the 143 Broad Building

  • Casual Atmosphere: Come as you are—our services are designed to be relaxed and welcoming, with a focus on contemporary Christian music.
  • Engaging Worship: Experience modern worship that draws us together as we sing, pray, and learn from God’s Word.
  • Communion & Prayer: Just like our Traditional Service, we celebrate the Lord’s Supper several times a year and offer times for prayer and reflection, creating space for connection with God and one another.

Traditional Service

11:15 a.m. in our Historic Sanctuary (Academy St. and McLelland Ave.)

  • Timeless Worship: Rooted in the Presbyterian tradition, this service follows a liturgical order of worship with hymns, Scripture readings, and the richness of a well-established liturgy.
  • Classical Music: Led by our Chancel Choir, the music incorporates traditional hymns, organ, handbells, and choirs, creating a reverent environment for worship.
  • Communion & Prayer: Like the Contemporary Service, we celebrate the sacraments and offer opportunities for prayer in various forms, ensuring all are invited to experience God’s grace.

One Church, Different Experiences

Both services share the same core practices—exegetical preaching from Scripture, celebrating the sacraments of communion and baptism, and praying together as a community. While the styles of worship may differ, each service reflects our shared commitment to glorifying God and growing in faith as one body in Jesus Christ.
